It’s a class cop show trope: pair up a mismatched duo, send them off to fight crime while learning to work together, and watch the emotional growth unfold! FOX’s Almost Human threw a sci-fi element into the mix, pairing techno-phobe tough guy Karl Urban with a cyborg played by Michael Ealy.

Apparently, they did not solve enough crimes to warrant a second season.

FOX has announced that Almost Human—a pet project of J.J. Abrams—will not be renewed for a sophomore season after a debut effort marked by low ratings. Despite an advertising blitz during last fall’s World Series and a strong start, the show struggled with low ratings in its Monday night timeslot. Ratings have sagged especially in the last few weeks, with the show averaging just 5.6 million viewers and a lackluster 1.5 rating in the vital 18-49 demographic.

Don’t worry about Abrams, though. Given that all anybody can talk about is Star Wars: Episode VII, we think he’ll be just fine.
