HBO is going all out at the Emmys this year as it has entered True Detective into the Best Drama Series category, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the Best Drama category, True Detective will likely face stiff competition from shows like Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, and House of Cards. The final nominees haven't been announced yet, but those are the usual suspects for the award.

The other option for True Detective was the Best Miniseries category, which would have featured less competition from a series like American Horror Story. True Detective likely would have won for Best Miniseries nearly uncontested, but HBO has instead opted to put it against some of the titans of TV drama.

However, after gaining rave critical reviews and coming off of Matthew McConaughey’s Academy Award winning performance in Dallas Buyer’s Club, True Detective could be looked at as one of the favorites to walk away with the gold.
