Paleontologist Nick Pyenson hosted a Reddit AMA to promote his new published work, where he presents an answer to a mystery about a million-year-old whale graveyard in the deserts of Chile. During the AMA, Reddit user REDDITNINEMILLION asked Pyenson to take a look at a bone he had since middle school. After examining the photo, Pyenson responded with, "You've found a ~14-11 million year old fossil whale vertebra! The seacliffs along the coast of Calvert County have been a source of marine mammal fossils for over 100 yrs!"
