Marvel to Launch a New "Spider-Man 2099" Series in July

With the return of the real Peter Parker in the new Amazing Spider-Man comic in April and the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 film in May, the next few months with be dominated by the Wall Crawler. But in perhaps the most interesting Spider-related news of the year, it was announced today that Marvel will be bringing the futuristic Spider-Man 2099 back to comics this July in a new solo comic series, written by Peter David and illustrated by Will Sliney.

David was the co-creator of the original Spider-Man 2099 book that launched in 1992, and the character has only increased in popularity since the title ended in 1996. In the new series, Miguel O’Hara, a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099, will find himself stuck in the present version of the Marvel universe, sort of like a reverse Captain America. While operating in the present, O’Hara will work to make sure the evil Alchemax Corporation never becomes the threat it is in the future. In an interview with Marvel.com, David said:
