A new Kickstarter project hopes to add new options and to laser tag. Skirmos, an open source laser tag set, would add game types and new options to laser tag, as well as a heads-up display, all of which can be customized by the user.

Skirmos is hoping for $60,000 in funding by April 4. As of writing, they're just under halfway there.

The addition of a HUD means that there are alternative ways to play besides kill-or-be-killed. The creators float the possibilities of team deathmatch and capture the flag.

The whole thing is based on the Arduino programming language, so if you want to come up with a new game mode, power up, or idea, it's possible. This could include making the guns different colors for different teams, or making different sounds for different weapons.

Skirmos is also very insistent that the final guns won't resemble real weapons. Hopefully this means that the cops won't confiscate yours when you play outside.
