Joan Rivers has said yet another rude, crude, mean-spirited thing. In other news our absolutes are intact: The grass is still green, water is still a liquid, and Joan Rivers is still...Joan Rivers.

In an interview with Howard Stern, the comedian said because Lena Dunham appears naked on her show, she's "sending a message out to people saying it's OK, stay fat, get diabetes, everybody die. Lose your fingers."

She added: "If you look that way you look, Lena, and that's fine and you're funny, don't say it's OK that other girls can look like this. Try to look better." Also said: "Let me ask you something...how could she wear dresses above the knee?" Yikes.

Rivers also called Dunham a hypocrite for appearing on the cover of Vogue, saying that the Girls creator and star doesn't care about her appearance, but ended up on the cover of a magazine that largely promotes an opposing image of body positivity.

"She was on Vogue's cover looking gorgeous, you didn't even know it was her."

Since we're on the subject of body image, aren't the forces of comic irony hard at work when an 80 year old women who has had at least 739 plastic surgeries feels the need to talk about another person's body?
