Chadwick Boseman Channels James Brown in the First Trailer for "Get on Up"

The Godfather of Soul is back.

After Chadwick Boseman turned in a surprise performance as legendary slugger Jackie Robinson in 42, his inclusion in director Tate Taylor’s Get on Up instantly made the movie one to watch in 2014. Based on the early career of the Godfather of Soul James Brown, Get on Up looks to combine drama, music, and humor into a package that honors the life of the legend.

In this first trailer for the movie, we get a look at Taylor’s energetic tone working in perfect harmony with Boseman’s pitch-perfect performance as Brown. For longtime fans of this music icon, the resemblance here should be downright eerie.

In addition to Boseman, the movie also touts a stacked cast including Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott, Craig Robinson, and Dan Aykroyd. All of the ingredients are here, it’s just a matter of sticking the landing now.

Get on Up hits theaters on August 1.
