2005’s Constantine adaptation disappointed fans looking for a faithful representation of the antisocial DC/Vertigo character. Not only was Constantine’s sardonic personality toned down by Keanu Reeves’ deadpan performance, but the character had absolutely no physical resemblance to his comic counterpart. Well it looks like NBC is looking to rectify that with this first promo image of Matt Ryan as John Constantine from the network’s upcoming Constantine adaptation, courtesy of Newsarama.

Decked out in the character’s trademark dirty blonde hair and drab trench coat, this version of Constantine looks like he jumped right off a Tim Bradstreet cover. In a press release for the show, producer David Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) had this to say about the character’s look:

None

Oh, and to give fans more reason to be optimistic about the show, Constantine is going back to his English roots for the series, instead of being portrayed as American like the movie. With a comic-accurate tone, and a pilot directed by Neil Marshall, the man behind the “Blackwater” episode of Game of Thrones, Constantine is something any comic/fantasy fan should keep an eye on.
