Con Edison has confirmed that it will compensate close to 90 victims affected by last week's deadly explosion that destroyed two East Harlem buildings

After being served with an initial lawsuit earlier this week, Con Edison revealed that 87 victims have already been paid. Though the exact value of the payments has yet to be revealed, Gothamist said that each amount has been handed out on an individual basis relating to the victims and their situation.

A Con Edison spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that the company has been meeting with victims and their families "one-on-one" to resolve the situation. Gothamist notes that this effort is an attempt to stop additional lawsuits, especially in the wake of the revelation that the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
