Authorities say two CNN producers were arrested yesterday while attempting to break into the World Trade Center site.
CBS New York reports that 26-year-old Connor Boals and 35-year-old Yon Pomrenze were taken into custody around 2:08 p.m. by the Port Authority Police Department for trying to sneak onto the World Trade Center site.
Boals and Pomrenze reportedly made three failed attempts to access the site: trying to walk past security, trying to scale a fence and ultimately trying to push through a controlled gate. The final try resulted in their arrest.
According to CBS News, the duo told allegedly police "if a 16-year-old could get on the site, they should also be able to get in," referencing Justin Casquejo's venture to the top of the tower last weekend. If they actually said anything close to that, they really should've kept that opinion (yes, opinion) to themselves.
Boals and Pomrenze were charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and obstruction of governmental administration. Authorities also reportedly seized a video camera on a tripod and a GoPro camera that were in their possession.
While a CNN representative confirmed to 1010 WINS that Boals and Pomrenze were on assignment, the rep maintained that they "were not asked to sneak onto the WTC site."
The reason Casquejo was able to access the top of the tower was because he literally caught the already light security sleeping, and because the spot wasn't hot. Four men were literally just charged with burglary for BASE jumping from the tower six months ago. Even if this stunt was in the name of rogue journalism, why would now be a good time to try and sneak in when security has been heightened?
Two lingering questions remain: What was the "plan" they drew up to execute this and how the fuck did they get hired by CNN?
