After the near-deafening success of Breaking Bad, the series’ creator, Vince Gilligan, has become one of the hottest talents in Hollywood. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, one of his spec scripts from 2002, called Battle Creek, is being turned into a series on CBS, with a pilot to be directed by X-Men’s Bryan Singer. Singer will reunite with his House partner David Shore as an executive producer on the series.
Dean Winters, Janet McTeer, Aubrey Dollar, Edward Fordham Jr., and Kal Penn are all set to star in the series. According to the site, Battle Creek focuses on:
Russ (Winters), a detective, and Milton, an FBI agent -- two men with very different worldviews who are teamed up. Together, they must answer the question: Is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Mich., in the face of a complete lack of resources? Or is the exact opposite -- it takes naiveté, trust and a boatload of resources -- actually true?
The initial plan for the show is to consist of 13 episodes on CBS. While it doesn’t seem like Gilligan is connected to the project outside of the script, having his name on the promotional material for the series should be more than enough to get people interested.
