An unidentified man's body was discovered along a boardwalk in Queens this morning, officials say.

CBS New York reports that the body was found just before 10 a.m. in Edgemere. The identity of the man—who's said to be in his 30s—has yet to be released, but the New York Daily News said that he had been missing since 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

The man's mother grew concerned after he disappeared, so she tracked his cell phone. She called police when it was traced to the beach.

CBS New York said the medical examiner will establish a cause of death.

UPDATE: The New York Post reports that the victim has been identified as Quinton Ross. A law enforcement source told the Post that Ross was reported missing at the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica, Queens on Thursday. According to the Post, initial reports that the victim was former NBA player Quinton Ross are incorrect.

Ross had been staying with his aunt, Stachia Jacobs, who said her mother recalled seeing men chase Ross prior to his disappearance. His body was found inside of a trash bag buried in a shallow grave between the water and the boardwalk near Beach 40th Street this morning.

Autopsy results from the Medical Examiner's Office are pending.
