Up until now, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been quiet about his role in Terminator Genesis, leading some people to suspect that reports of his involvement were just rumors. However, in an interview with Collider, the former Governator opened up about what director Alan Taylor has in store for the reinvigorated franchise. Here is what Schwarzenegger had to say:
The way it reads, it has the same feel of Terminator 2. It’s big. There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top. It’s not a Thor type of movie, even though it’s the same director. It has good special effects, but just enough to say, “Wow, where did that come from? How did they do that?”
Any comparison with Terminator 2 is a good sign, seeing how the franchise fell off with Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation. It still hasn't been explained how Schwarzenegger's Terminator character will factor in to the plot, but it's refreshing to know he'll be back in the flesh, and not some CGI stunt double posing as him.
Still, despite that optimism, Arnold did say he wasn’t sure whether or not the movie would get an R rating. While that isn’t a deal breaker for the movie, no one wants the film to pull its punches to appease a wider audience.
Along with Schwarzenegger, Terminator Genesis will star Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, and Jason Clarke as John Connor. It is set to begin filming next month and is slated to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
