When you're surrounded in the white abyss that is Antarctica, by default, you'll have to abandon all hope of finding love anywhere on the continent (who goes there for the bars, amirite?) Well, thanks to Tinder, the chances of finding a special someone has shot up to never before seen Antarctic levels.

An American scientist stationed in Antarctica opened his Tinder app to see if he could find anyone in the area who might be interested, but he came up empty handed. So, he increased the app's location radius, and—voila—another researcher popped up, who was stationed a 45-minute helicopter ride away from him. The scientist went out on a limb and swiped right, and soon he was matched up with the researcher. "She was actually in her tent in the Dry Valleys when we matched," the scientist told New York Magazine. "She was quite literally camping in Antarctica, went on Tinder, and found me. It's mind-blowing."

He and his Tinder match were able to meet up before she left the continent the next day, but he says he still hopes love will spark when she comes back. The scientist is worried that he'd get his Internet taken away by the government if they found out, so he declined to give the magazine his name. We wish him and his new bae the very best.

"My friend lives in Connecticut and does tinder, and he can't get laid to save his life," one commenter on the NY Mag website said. "He's going to shoot himself after reading this."
