All three will raise some eyebrows.

Despite numerous false starts and delays, it looks like Sony is dead set on rebooting the He-Man franchise for the big screen. G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu was originally attached to the project for months, but since his departure the studio hasn’t been able to find a replacement. According to The Wrap, the folks at Sony do have a few directors in mind.

The site is reporting that Mike Cahill (Another Earth), Chris McKay (editor, The Lego Movie), and Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) are all on the studio’s radar to take the reins of the movie. None of these names have blockbuster experience, but the studio does have an interest in them.

The article claims that McKay actually has the most momentum for the project, despite the fact that he has never directed a movie for a studio. He recently served as the editor of The Lego Movie. Zwart, on the other hand, has a relationship with Sony from The Karate Kid. Meanwhile, Cahill is most known for indies like Another Earth and I, Origins. He might have a low profile, but he’s easily the most intriguing name on the list.

We’ll have more when/if an official announcement is made.
