Man v. Machine: A Ping Pong Champion is Set to Play Against a Robot Next Month

Who (or what) will win?

None

It's not exactly Skynet becoming self-aware, but it's another step toward robots taking over the world.

Next month, an industrial robot is set to take on a champion ping pong player in Shanghai, China. Timo Boll, a ping pong legend, will play a game against a KUKA Agilus robot. KUKA is a robot manufacturing company that's opening a new factory in Shanghai, and the game will be part of the collection of activities celebrating its opening. The Agilus is the company's fastest robot, so Boll might have his hands full. But I can't really imagine a robot being able to keep up in a game of ping pong—at least a robot that doesn't have the ability to jump from corner to corner in a fraction of a second.

The game will take place March 11.
