Lionsgate has released a statement following yesterday's tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was currently starring in a pivotal role as game master Plutarch Heavensbee in their films, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. The statement, from Variety: "Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation.  We’re very fortunate that he graced our ‘Hunger Games’ family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family."

According to Vulture, Lionsgate also revealed that Hoffman only had seven days left of shooting for Mockingjay Pt. 2, so the release dates for both films would remain the same following this tragedy. Currently, Pt. 1 is set to be released on Nov. 21, 2014, and Pt. 2 is set to be released on Nov. 20, 2015.
