On effective way to understand (or judge) people is by their taste in music.
Paul Lamere, responsible for the blog Music Machinery, created this map which shows the most overwhelmingly favored artists in each state. Be clear—it's not the most popular artists in each state, it's the most distinctively favored ones arranged in accordance to their Spotify popularity in the U.S., as well as popularity in each state.
Some results make sense (Rick Ross' popularity in Florida; Future's in Georgia), while others are puzzling. They're allowed to be puzzling, though. One commenter chose to stereotype listeners across the U.S., alleging that a map based on popularity would be heavy with "Jay-z, Drake, Macklemore, Lorde, Daft Punk." Maybe, and maybe not. Every music fan isn't that typical.
