Lionsgate is sponsoring a Starcraft II tournament in conjunction with streaming site Twitch and Major League gaming to promote the upcoming DVD and video on demand release of Ender's Game.

The qualifying rounds of the tournament will be streamed on Twitch from Feb. 5-9 and on MLG.TV on Feb. 11-16. The championship will be streamed on Twitch on Feb. 22. There will be cash prizes at each event, with $10,000 going to the winner of the championship.

Nick Summers at The Next Web points out that we probably shouldn't get used to eSports as movie promotions. Starcraft and Ender's Game both revolve around space combat, making them a unique fit for each other. The list of players has also just been released by Twitch:

Chris "HuK" Loranger; Paulo "CatZ" Vizcarra; Choi "Polt" Seong Hun; Kim "violet" Dong Hwan; Gage "Sasquatch" DuBose; Chad "Minigun" Jones; Brandon "puck" Qual; Alex "Neeb" Sunderhaft; Conan "Suppy" Liu; Bailey "Bails" Thomas; Max "Astrea"  Angel; Kevin "qxc" Riley; Chris "Illusion" Lee; Zifeng "hellokitty" Wang; Libo "xenocider" Chang

Twitch has been on the upswing lately, supplementing PC streams with integration on the PlayStation 4. The service will be coming to the Xbox One later this year. Ender's Game releases on Feb. 11.
