In the six years since Marvel launched its own movie studio, the comic book company has been careful to play it safe with films based on longtime favorites like the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. However, this summer, the House of Ideas is embarking on a journey that will explore the larger Marvel Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The movie stars an oddball team comprised of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana as the green-skinned Gamora; WWE star Dave Bautista as the mountainous Drax the Destroyer; Vin Diesel as the treelike Groot; and Bradley Cooper as the foul-mouthed Rocket Raccoon. In the film, this group must band together to stop Ronan the Accuser from unleashing the power of a dangerous orb upon the universe.
Walking trees, talking raccoons, and a professional wrestler are all tough sells, but Marvel is looking to squash those fears by easing audiences into this world by releasing some official images for the film, courtesy of USA Today.
