Time for your weird casting news of the day: According to EWJada Pinkett Smith has signed on to Fox's Batman prequel, Gotham as...wait for it...Fish Mooney. Say what?

If you've never heard the name before, Batman fanatics, don't worry—the character is an original villain for the show, painted as “a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, she’s got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed.” So, y'know, maybe don't cross her.

Gotham, a one-hour TV movie to air this fall, was written by The Mentalist’s Bruno Heller, and will play as somewhat of a Batman origin story. It will focus on a young version of Batman's trusted ally James Gordon, who will be portrayed by Southland's Ben McKenzie.

Aside from the future Commissioner Gordon, some other recognizable characters from the Batman world that have been cast include include Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot.
