Alec Baldwin will put his acting chops to the ultimate test as a guest star on upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU. Vulturereports that he'll be playing Jimmy MacArthur, "a controversial New York newspaper columnist who questions the SVU squad’s motives during the investigation of a potential hate crime/rape case." Katie Couric will also appear in the episode, playing herself.

Baldwin recently penned a letter announcing his retirement from public life and his plans to leave New York City to live in LA, because, New York, he loves you, but you've brought him down. SVU is kind of of a total NYC show, though, so we're not sure what he plans on doing about that.

The episode will air on March 19.
