The game is a perfect fit for iPad owners looking for bite-sized episodic installments of a title, something casual that doesn't require a massive time investment.

Telltale games still hasn't released episode two of The Walking Dead Season 2, but the grim and heart-wrenching world of Clementine is on full display in episode 1. The gam is gorgeous, gory, and forces players to make decisions that will impact them for episodes to come.

Device 6 isn't for fans seeking flat out action or instant gratification in terms of brilliantly lavish set-pieces. What the game will do is challenge your critical thinking abilities and force you to reconsider what the definition of a 'game' may be for you. Think of Device 6 as a text adventure with a director of photography's eye for detail. You'll be forced to flip, rotate, and read the design and text based puzzles to further the plot, but the title succeeds brilliantly in thinking outside the narrow confines of what we may consider a casual mobile game. Comparisons to Lost, Myst, and the old British TV show, The Prisoner are all apt.

A stealth title on a mobile device seems like a hard sell.

After all, success in stealth games is predicated on pinpoint controls and precise flow of action. Virtual controls are always one arena where mobile titles tend to falter, not so with République. 

The future is a dystopian surveillance state that looks to monitor, control, and 'rehabilitate' its citizens and it's up to you to help one girl escape and find freedom. A perfect mobile title that captures the current climate of NSA spying, data leaks, and the evaporation of personal privacy in a claustrophobic and conforming society.

Perfect for fans of the Metal Gear series.

While retro, 8-bit throwback titles may be coming close to over-saturating both Steam and the mobile market, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP succeeds in creating an action-adventure game that sets the bar for retro-inspired titles. Capybara Games' title may be almost three years old, but the soundtrack alone makes the title a must-own for iPad gamers. The fantasy world draws on inspiration from the ancient worlds of Persia and Scythia to create something remarkably satisfying. Legend of Zelda fans, this one is for you.

Kingdom Rush: Frontiers HD is the expansion on the already gratifying first installment of the initial tower defense title. Frontiers allows players to control units, employ upgradeable heroes, and build ramparts that also offer massive upgrades. Strategy fans will alsp appreciate the charming art style as the story unfolds like a digital comic book.

A divisive addition to the list, Final Fantasy VI has been widely criticized for 'updating' the original title's in-game sprites. The result is an off-putting visual aesthetic that makes character art look runny and blown-out.  Final Fantasy VI  for iOS may have lost some of the charm of the original SNES title, but the port is still massively engaging in terms of narrative. The story of FFVI is one of the most enjoyable in the canon, and it's firmly in place here. Aided by new character profiles, the game's shortcomings are quickly overshadowed and gamers will quickly overlook aesthetic missteps.

After the debacle that was Final Fantasy: All of the Bravest, this iOS title is a perfect palate cleanser

An Xbox Live Arcade and PSN port. Sine Mora is the modern day answer for gamers looking for classic shoot-em-ups like R-Type and 1944. The side-scrolling title gives players tight controls, massive bosses, devastating armaments, and a huge roster of planes to select from. The game's starring mechanic is the ability for players to manipulate time and slow down or speed up the wave after wave of enemy fire. The game's dope and instanly feels like a quarter devouring arcade title from days gone by.

One of the more difficult and frustrating titles on the list, Badland will force players to tap the screen to keep their Tim Burton inspired puffball aloft. Various obstacles such as mines, spikes, and giant-toothed gears are all trying to crush you and the clones you replicate as you make your way through each level. The art direction and soundtrack are some of the best available on the mobile market.
