Suspect in Custody Following Reports of Shooting at New Mexico Middle School

The school was placed on lockdown early this morning.

Authorities in Roswell, N.M. say a suspect accused of opening fire at a local middle school is in custody. 

The shooting took place at Berrendo Middle School, and CNN reports that both state and local police were summoned around 8:11 a.m. Eastern New Mexico Medical Center spokeswoman Brooke Linthicum said that two children had been hospitalized, adding that an update on their conditions was not available at the moment.

Via their Facebook page, the Roswell Police Department said that the suspect had been caught. State Police Public Information Officer Emmanuel Gutierrez added that the threat had been "alleviated," and that children were being bused from the school.
