The demo for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will finally drop today for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and includes some exclusive content.

In the demo players take the role of Lightning whose tracking her mysterious old friend Snow Villiers in the city of Yusnaan which is sure to include plenty of grizzly and fast-paced battles.

After listening to reviewers and critics try to explain the new battle system players will finally get some hands-on. I spent some quality time with Lightning Returns and its developers late last year – check it out here – and mostly got my butt kicked in new action-oriented battle system. Players will switch through Schema which are basically battle styles represented by a myriad of outfits making Lightning something of a one-woman army.

Also included in the demo is the “Outerworld” feature whereby players can relay their progress to social media like Facebook and Twitter where they can post battle scores. Outerworld in the full title includes many more options such as buying and selling items with friends. Completing the demo and posting your score after the boss battle also nets players the unlock for Siegfried Garb from Final Fantasy VI for the full game.

So if you've been waiting for the conclusion of Lightning's tale the time is now. The demo is available today on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII drops Feb. 11 in North America.
