No one can accuse developer Blizzard of rushing Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft out the door. The game has been in closed beta for over six months and now it's in open beta in North America and headed to the rest of the world “in the next few days.”
Gamers who've played the latest version of the closed beta have seen a very polished, addictive and what seems to be, fully functioning game. But Blizzard see's more work to be done before it unleashes its card crack on the world. Most likely related to the huge number of players that going to get hooked on this free-to-play Warcraft drug.
“Open Beta is still not a final release,” says a post in the Hearthstone blog, ”and we will be closely monitoring many aspects of the game to ensure a positive play experience for everyone. Please be aware that if smoke starts curling out of our servers due to unexpectedly high demand for Hearthstone, we may have to temporarily disable Open Beta account activations until we’re ready to take on more players.”
Smoke, there will be! While you may not be a fan of card games like Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone is an entirely different experience. The gameplay is easy to understand but difficult to master as player charge through the single-player tutorials to build up some points to play multiplayer. The only solace to those of us who've been spending out nights quietly collecting decks is maybe we can start winning a few more of the tough multiplayer rounds.
