David Fincher's hotly anticipated adaptation of Gillian Flynn's popular thriller novel Gone Girl covers Entertainment Weekly's 2014 Preview issue this week, and while the film won't impact until fall, there's one reveal in EW's story sure to entice fans.
Flynn, who has taken up adaptation duties for the film herself, discloses that she's more or less completely changed up the third act. As she tells EW: "Ben [Affleck] was so shocked by it. He would say, 'This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch." The novel chronicles the disappearance of Amy Dunne and her husband Nick's—portrayed in the film by Ben Affleck—subsequent emergence as the prime suspect, and quickly won fans over with a myriad of twist and turns, particularly in the climax that Flynn has apparently changed. But it is hers to alter, so perhaps this new ending suits the silver screen? Gone Girl hits theaters on October 3.
