All praise to Alison Gianotto, the creator of this hilarious, and useful, plug-in, which takes maddeningly hyperbolic Upworthy headlines and tones them down a notch or ten. The appropriately named Downworthy takes the viral site's usually saccharine, stomach-churningly optimistic headlines and upgrades them with a little sarcasm.
Downworthy replaces some of Upworthy's most used phrases with subtler ones, swapping out "Will Blow Your Mind" for "Might Perhaps Mildly Entertain You For a Moment" and switching "You Won't Believe" with "In All Likelihood, You'll Believe." For instance, a headline like "This Guy Was Exploring His Grandpa’s Attic. What He Found Is Mysteriously Awesome…Whoa" becomes "This Guy Was Exploring His Grandpa’s Attic. What He Found Is Mysteriously Probably Slightly Less Boring Than Working…Whoa."
Here's hoping this plug-in will go viral. That is, "Be Overused So Much That You'll Silently Pray for the Sweet Release of Death to Make it Stop."
