Surveillance Footage Shows Avonte Running Out of Open Door

The door had been open for over 30 minutes.

Just over a week after the remains found near the East River in Queens were confirmed as Avonte Oquendo's, footage of him running out of an open door at his Long Island City school has emerged.

The footage, obtained by NY1, shows the door at Center Boulevard School being opened by an adult at 12:07 p.m on Oct. 4. At 12:38 p.m., the 14-year-old Oquendo can be seen sprinting through the door, which remained open until a school safety officer closed it three minutes later.

Oquendo's mother, Vanessa Fontaine, filed an emergency lawsuit against the Department of Education to gain access to files regarding her son's disappearance. Fontaine was denied twice before, as the DOE claimed the release of such information was an "invasion of privacy."
