Nintendo fans waiting for what could in theory be a big system seller for the beleaguered Wii U will have to keep on waiting, as the company has announced that the next Super Smash Bros. will not be releasing in Spring 2014.

The retraction comes after Nintendo Germany general manager Bernd Fakesch made comments earlier this week suggesting that the Wii U Smash Bros. installment would be coming next Spring in the German site Neckar-Chronik, reports Gamespot. Nintendo reps have since clarified Fakesch's comments as a "misquotation," leaving the release date for Smash Bros. a vague "2014".

Despite claims of a boost in sales over November, time will tell if Nintendo's console will be outpaced by the time Smash Bros. eventually hits.
