The police should've just listened.
Two people spent a month behind bars because police were convinced that the homemade soap in their vehicle was cocaine. According to the Huffington Post, 26-year-old Annadel Cruz was stopped by troopers on Interstate 79 in Lehigh County, Penn. back on Nov. 13 for traveling at five miles over the speed limit. A trooper claimed to smell marijuana, and Cruz admitted to smoking, as well as carrying a small amount of it in her bra.
During a search, the trooper discovered two small, white bricks in clear packaging. Though Cruz claimed they were homemade soap, they somehow reportedly tested positive for cocaine during a field test. Both Cruz and 30-year-old Alexander Bernstein were arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking, while Cruz was given additional charges for traffic violations and marijuana possession.
However, after a month, officials determined that the substance was actually soap. On Dec. 11, the charges against Bernstein were dropped and Cruz was released from prison. The next move? Lawsuit.
