Watch: The First Full-Length Trailer For "Transcendence," Starring Johnny Depp And Morgan Freeman

Check out some new footage from Wally Pfister's directorial debut.

If you don’t know who Wally Pfister is, this trailer should change that immediately. Best known as the man who gave Christopher Nolan’s movies their signature look, Pfister has been one of the best cinematographers in Hollywood for the last decade. Now he’s trying his hand at directing with the upcoming sci-fi film, Transcendence.

Starring Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, and Cillian Murphy, Transcendence focuses on a scientist named Will Caster whose consciousness is placed into a sentient computer after he is killed by anti-tech terrorists. The movie asks the question of whether the Will Caster in the computer truly is the man who was killed, or simply an unfeeling artificial intelligence that has downloaded his memories. It’s a classic sci-fi premise that borrows from the likes of Philip K. Dick and William Gibson. It’s a tall order for Pfister’s first film, but it looks like his tutelage under Nolan has paid off.

Transcendence hits theaters on April 18, 2014.
