The rumor mill for Warner Brothers' untitled Batman/Superman movie just keeps on churning. This time, Nuke the Fridge is reporting that sources have told them that the studio is eyeing Denzel Washington to play the John Stewart version of Green Lantern for the upcoming superhero ensemble movie. Nothing about this is confirmed yet, and fans would be wise to take this story with a cinder block of salt for now. However, this report is consistent with the studio’s vision of bringing A-list actors to the project, including Ben Affleck as Batman and the rumor about Joaquin Phoenix playing Lex Luthor.

It makes sense that the studio is going after Washington, who is usually a sure-fire box office draw and would bring even more credibility to the project than before. At this point it’s obvious that Batman/Superman is likely a gateway for the studio to eventually launch a full-on Justice League film. There are even rumors about The Flash and Martian Manhunter appearing in some capacity as well.

If Washington passes on the role, expect the studio to still keep the Stewart version of the Green Lantern in the film in an effort to distance Batman/Superman from the atrocity known as Ryan Reynolds.
