It's Official: After "Episode VII," A New Star Wars Film Will Be Released Every Year

The galaxy far, far away will soon be coming to a theater near you, again and again. Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn confirmed the long-rumored plan to release a Star Wars film every year following Episode VII yesterday morning at the Variety Dealmakers Breakfast. Going off the Marvel model that has worked so well with The Avengers—and which Sony is currently co-opting for The Amazing Spider-Man—Disney will release spin-off films centered on side Star Wars characters that nevertheless take place within the same universe, maybe even with unifying plot threads. Horn also revealed that he has yet to receive a final script for Episode VII, which will probably be budgeted around $200 million.
