A questionable trademark filed earlier this week for a third Shenmue entry has been denounced as a fake, reports CVG. The European Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market received the application on Tuesday, though no other trademark office were contacted and evidently anyone can file an application with OHIM. The news was later confirmed by Sega themselves, who have not shown real interest in a third Shenmue for years.
“Sega has confirmed that the recent application for the trademark of Shenmue III is a fake and is looking into the origins of this application,” the company said in a statement to CVG.
The Shenmue trademark follows recent similar applications for Half-Life 3 and Fallout 4, though it’s unclear if all three have all come from the same applicant.
