Jacksonville, Fla.'sNathan B. Forrest High School was founded in 1959. It's been over 40 years since the school was integrated, and the student body is predominantly black. However, it's only now that the school has decided to take action and shed the name of the Ku Klux Klan's first grand wizard.
According to First Coast News, 64 percent of students supported the name change. Still, the very same survey revealed that alumni, as well as members of the faculty and community were against it for a variety of reasons. Some people love tradition, regardless of how racist it may be. That's the way of 'Merica, and the rest of the world, to be depressingly honest.
Students will be allowed to pick the new name. Expect them to get creative.
