Take a second to think about the days you were younger, and something you might regret. We all have things we did that we aren't proud of but we (hopefully) learn from, whether it was bullying kids in grade school, or making fun of someone to get a laugh out of your friends. Perhaps, it's something worse. Rarely, once we figure out we were in the wrong, do we get the chance to apologize. But now one man has, thanks to Facebook.
Michael Goodman robbed Claude Soffel 34 years ago outside of the American Museum of Natural History, and took his bus pass. Goodman was then arrested by an undercover cop, and was sentenced to buff out subway graffiti for his crime, never seeing his victim again. Then, just a few days ago, Goodman, 53, was on Facebook and saw a posting that mentioned his favorite bagel shop was closing. While checking out the comments, he noticed one name sticking out: Claude Soffel.
Goodman then took the chance to send a public comment to Soffel to apologize:
"Finally I can say," he says. "I"M VERY SORRY that you had to go through that crap that day long ago, I wish it had never happened but it did."
Soffel wrote back.
As you can see with his response, Goodman was relieved.
The two men are still talking on the original Facebook post, and though Goodman is now living in Hawaii, he says he'll take Soffel out for a drink sometime. Check it out here.
