Over the weekend, a man in China decided that he would literally rather die than continue to watch his girlfriend shop.
On Saturday, 38-year-old Tao Hsiao's girlfriend asked him to take just one more spin around Xuzhou, China's Golden Eagle International Shopping Center. After over five hours, Tao couldn't take it anymore, diving over a balcony and falling to his death seven floors below.
According to the Daily Mail a witness said that Tao told his girlfriend she already had enough shoes. Her response was less than kind: "She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument." Surveillance footage captured him throwing her shopping bags over the balcony in a fit of rage before taking his own life.
According to a mall spokesperson, Tao died on impact. The stress of the holidays can force people to drastic measures.
