After Avatar became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, a sequel was all but inevitable. Somehow, though, director James Cameron has convinced 20th Century Fox to be patient in exploiting the franchise, and more than four years later, we still aren’t close to seeing the next installment. However, that hasn’t stopped Cameron from talking about what’s next for Pandora. And in an interview with The Associated Press, Cameron revealed a few small details about the movie:

None

Later in the interview, Cameron revealed that Sam Worthington’s character, Jake Sully, won’t be the only focal point of the movie. Instead, Cameron said he is going TheGodfather route by introducing a larger “family” for Sully:

None

Many fans thought the first Avatar borrowed plot points from 20th Century Fox’s animated movie FernGully, so for Cameron to now be influenced by the greatest film saga of all time for the sequels is a bit of a surprise. You can expect the first Avatar sequel to be in theaters in December 2016, with the next two to hit screens in 2017 and 2018.
