After Iron Man 3 grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, it only makes sense that Marvel would want to carry as much over from that movie into its upcoming Avengers sequel as possible. Now Bleeding Cool is reporting that Don Cheadle will likely return as War Machine/The Iron Patriot in some capacity for the highly-anticipated sequel. There is no word yet on how big the role might be, but with so many other characters fighting for screen time, it’s safe to assume that the James Rhodes character will be in for a reason.

War Machine isn’t usually associated with the mainstream Avengers in the comics, but he has appeared as a member of the West Coast Avengers for a lengthy run. Hopefully Rhodes ditches his red, white, and blue armor from Iron Man 3 and dons his more traditional look.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits screens on May 1, 2015.
