With a ton of new app releases coming out this year, for iOS owners, there could only be one app that claimed the crown of most downloaded.  Though we named our Top Apps of 2013, with Vine being named the App of the Year, in terms of downloads, ghe app didn't come out on top, but did beat another important rival.

Apple named the addictive game Candy Crush its most downloaded free app of the year, with YouTube and Temple Run 2 rounding out the top three. What helped spur the sales of both of those games (and YouTube) is that they are free to play, which is one of trends to come out of 2013, as companies made a push to get money from advertising instead. Vine came in at fourth in terms of downloads, beating out both Instagram and Snapchat—however, since 2013 was its launch year, it had more of a chance to grow a faster user base than Instagram, which has been out for a few years now.
