The Brooklyn teenagers who were badly injured while trying to make "wax" in Brooklyn yesterday morning are facing serious criminal charges. Both 19-year-old Anthony Gamble and 17-year-old Gabriella Katanov have been charged with marijuana possession, reckless endangerment and criminal use of drug paraphernalia. Both have been charged as adults.
Around 2:20 a.m. yesterday morning, an explosion took place inside of a Brooklyn garage where Gamble and Katanov were soaking a 30-gallon tub of marijuana in butane. The blast reportedly happened when one of them lit a cigarette, leaving both with second and third-degree burns.
Gamble and Katanov were rushed to Staten Island University North Hospital. Battalion Chief Steven Treco said the teens suffered "major burns to a major portion of their bodies," and Katanov's mother, Luba Poukhova, said her daughter's injuries could keep her in the hospital for as long as a year.
"Wax" is a popular and extremely potent marijuana concentrate, but the highly-flammable chemicals used to extract the THC make it danger in certain instances. This is one of those instances.
