Get ready: Beverly Hills Cop is officially back. That CBS sequel series being planned in 2012 may still be dead, but according to Indiewire, Eddie Murphy has signed on to star in a whole new BHC film, Beverly Hills Cop 4. Set to direct? None other than Rush Hour director Brett Ratner.
Apparently, the project is in the works over at Paramount, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing under his new development deal with them. Ratner has long been in talks to direct a new Beverly Hills Cop project—as in, five years—so this has been in the making for a while. It's not clear if it'll still be the same project as the one he spoke about in 2009, though: Back then, Ratner told MTV that his plans were to make the film a "reinvention" of the past franchise, and, that he wanted to "reintroduce it" to modern audiences. "I’m going to take the best of the first two films and put it into the new one." He also wanted to make it a hard R.
What we do know, however, is that the script will see Axel Foley (Murphy) "returning to his Detroit roots," and that the script is currently in development.
