Good luck trying to win any Academy Awards pools next March.
More than any other year in recent memory, 2013 has been such an excellent year for cinema that there isn't one clear-cut frontrunner for the coveted Best Picture statue. Hell, there aren't even obvious picks for the Best Actor and Best Actress honors. For Best Picture, though, there are favorite—so far, 12 Years a Slave, Her, and Gravity have topped several critics' and critics' groups' Top 10 lists, giving those films an edge over equally well-reviewed movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and Captain Phillips.
One thing's for sure, though: Your Complex Pop Culture team doesn't exactly jive with all of those stuffy Academy Award ballot holders. Which is why you're about to see some of those aforementioned films ranked alongside movies directed by Rob Zombie, starring Selena Gomez, featuring characters getting raped by Satan, and bolstered by Dwayne Johnson bulging out of some rather tight Under Armour shirts.
