Yesterday evening, the 17-year-old girl who was shot in the head by a gunman at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. last Friday passed away. According to an announcement by Littleton Adventist Hospital, Claire Davis died at 6:29 p.m., eight days after 18-year-old Karl Pierson shot her at point-blank range. The hospital called her death "immensely heartbreaking" for the staff, as well as the entire community.
Davis' family released a heartbreaking statement last night:
Although we have lost our precious daughter, we will always be grateful for the indelible journey she took us on over the last 17 years—we were truly blessed to be Claire’s parents. The grace, laughter and light she brought to this world will not be extinguished by her death; to the contrary, it will only get stronger.
Pierson's intended target, debate team teacher Tracy Murphy, was not harmed. Murphy reportedly suspended Pierson for making a threat in September. Pierson was found dead by authorities, the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
