We're still without official confirmation that Beetlejuice 2 is happening, but the proof is beginning to get pretty overwhelming: In addition to star Michael Keaton's confirmation that the sequel is happening, Winona Ryder has revealed to The Daily Beast that she's in talks to return for the film.
"I'm kind of sworn to secrecy," Ryder said of the sequel. "But it sounds like it might be happening." She also added that the film, which is reportedly being penned by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer author, Seth Grahame-Smith, will take place nearly three decades after the original, and is definitely "not a remake."
"It's 27 years later," Ryder continued. "And I have to say, I love Lydia [Deetz, her character] so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later...That's one of those movies where little kids stop me. I'm so associated with it. I think it gave me my career. I was such a weird looking kid."
As for those who believe the classic 1988 film shouldn't be touched—a.k.a., everyone who realizes that Grahame-Smith is also the guy who wrote Dark Shadows, Tim Burton's shittiest movie yet—Ryder acknowledges them, but doesn't seem repelled. "It's a very precious movie to people. So there are a lot people like, 'DON'T,'" she commented. "I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael...because those guys, I love."
