It was bound to happen, yet, for a while there, it felt like it never would.
In last night's excellent Sons of Anarchy episode, "Aon Rud Persanta," Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) finally did what he should have done a long, long time ago—he killed his stepfather, Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). All of Clay's horrible moves against his former SAMCRO biker crew were atoned for, in death. For once, series creator Kurt Sutter abandoned his admirable love for the show's characters and killed one of the main ones off.
And the millions of Sons fans populating social media last night were, understandably, feeling all types of ways. Somewhat surprisingly, many were angry. Extremely angry. Even more, they were willing to forgive Clay's numerous errors, back-stabbings, and murderous actions because, well, they love him. Credit is due to Ron Perlman's performance throughout all six of the show's seasons—though he was often explosive and cold-blooded, Clay remained sympathetic thanks to Perlman's ability to undercut ruthlessness with remorse, his evilness with self-awareness.
For that, many Sons viewers weren't happy last night. Some claim they'll never watch the show again. Others cried. The following 15 people on Twitter who are angry about Clay Morrow encompass the overall outcry of support for Jax's dead father.
