Last night, congressman Trey Radel (R-Fla.) announced that he will take a leave of absence for an unspecified amount of time, in addition to donating his salary. Yesterday, the 37-year-old pleaded guilty to cocaine possession after being arrested in D.C. last month.
"I have no excuse for what I have done. I have let down our country," Radel said during a press conference, adding that he "grew up with a mom who struggled with alcoholism." A remorseful Radel said that he didn't want his son to "struggle with [the same issue]."
Radel was sentenced to a year of supervised probation and, as part of a plea deal, will enter an inpatient drug treatment program in Florida. Now that he's had his Entourage season 7 finale come-to-Jesus moment, Radel's road to recovery can begin—with Eminem's Recovery in heavy rotation for the self-proclaimed "Hip Hop Conservative."
