When Chris Roberts, creator of the Wing Commander series, announced he was doing a “spiritual” successor last year – check out the trailer above – we got very excited. But that news was quickly overshadowed by the breakaway crowd funding success of Star Citizen. But the massively multiplayer space darling isn’t going to overshadow the single player narrative that Robert’s want to do. So now we can look forward to the discovery of Star Citizen and the story of Squadron 42.

“I haven’t talked about Squadron 42 because it’s a narrative story,” Roberts explained in an interview with RockPaperShotun. “I kinda want to make that more of a discovery thing. But it’s going to be as big or as fancy as any Wing Commander would be.”

“The scope and scale and ambition of it now is gonna be up there with anything I could’ve done with Wing Commander. Like, if I was doing a Wing Commander at EA, Squadron 42 is gonna be that. At that level. We already have a bunch of stuff that I really like. We have our own motion capture studio. We have a whole face rig thing.”

So not only is the developer, Roberts Space Ind., better funded that most space programs, it now has two games in the works.
