An off-duty NYPD officer was nearly beaten to death in Queens early Sunday morning.

According to the New York Daily News, Sgt. Mohammed Deen was in a medically-induced coma as of yesterday night. Deen, 40, got into a fight outside of St. John's Express restaurant and bar in Ozone Park. Video footage of the attack shows a man believed to be 29-year-old Hayden Holder standing over Deen, punching him in the head repeatedly while he's unconcious. The whole time, the man filiming the video can be heard screaming "WORLDSTAR!"

The video also shows the aggressor trying to punch out the window of Deen's white BMW, where his terrified wife was hiding. Unsuccessful at that, he walks back to Deen and slams his head into the pavement once again.

NYPD Chief of Department Philip Banks lll said that an argument between the two men outside of St. John's Express escalated rapidly and violently. Sources told the Daily News that the conflict might have originated at Maracas nightclub, which is about a mile away from the scene of the incident.

Holder was apprehended by police about a block away from the attack after trying to flee. He admitted to assaulting Deen, but said he didn't know Deen was a cop. He was charged with felony assault.
